Word of Mouth, Online Reputation and Silver Bullets
“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas A. Edison
How can practices get TONS of reviews and word of mouth with a click of a button? If this technological solution existed, the inventor would be rich and maybe even famous. It’s not just dental practices, but restaurants, hotels and every other service driven business that would want that fast, easy solution.
In reality, great word of mouth is dressed in overalls and looks like work. Practices with exceptional reviews and active social media communities get there by talking with patients—one by one. Often these conversations start with a simple, “How did we do today?” Open-ended questions can open the door to compliments and the rest rolls on from there …
This week I spoke with a doctor and his wife who works at their front desk. The doctor’s wife said the entire team has experimented talking with patients and time and again, “it’s the doctor’s sincere invitation to post a review that works best”. Note, it doesn’t always have to be the doctor—in this case he was most effective, but don’t let that stop you. You may just need to explore who is the best person to have these conversations in your practice.
Some practices are content waiting for the silver bullet to be invented. The day when they can push a button and they will instantly gets tons of word of mouth and referrals.
In the end it’s the practices who have mastered, and grown to enjoy, social conversations with their patients who will thrive. And their online reputations will reflect it.
