It’s all about the Mindset!

I spoke with my friend Kim McGuire, executive business coach, recently about why some doctors and practices are so open to embrace change, and things like new marketing techniques—and why others are not.  Kim put her thoughts about mindset into the article below … What is your mindset about social media?  Are you open to embrace new techniques?  Have you decided that social media will or will not work for you?  Here’s what Kim has to say about mindset:

Do you ever notice how some days the practice is flowing and everything is running smoothly?   On these days, patients are being enrolled in the treatment they need and want, hand-offs are consistent, patients are paying their bills and there is clear communication between all team members.  Then there are other days where things seem to all go wrong!

What has you produce the results you want?  On first thought, you think that you get the results from the things you do. Sure, what you do is important; having clear systems and training is essential.  The big question is what has you do what you do?

It’s your mindset.  Your mindset, or your thinking, affects what you do to produce the results you want.  Your mindset comes from what your focusing on, what your beliefs are about your patients, team and dentistry, and your general physiology – the way your body moves and your facial expressions.

If you’re focusing on patients being late or not saying ‘yes’ to the treatment, that’s what you’ll get.  If you believe patients will not hold up their end of the financial agreements, that’s what they will do.  And if you’re not in a peak physical state, you can risk communicating upset or stress to your team and your patients.  Body language speaks volumes!

Instead, work on intentionally deciding what mindset you want to have for the day:  focus on results and creating an amazing experience for your patients; believe all your patients deserve to be offered the very best dentistry available; and arrive to work with a smile on your face and a confident posture.  You get to choose your mindset each and ever day.  Sure, things come up that add to our stress, however we get to choose how we react to those obstacles.

Your mindset will be infectious and influence others around you to be their best.  Try it out and let me know how it goes!
