If You Post About Everything – Nothing Stands Out
When you post about everything, it’s hard for your values, personality, and notable services to stand out.
You’ve probably seen the offers for free content calendars. You may even be offered a free idea for every day of the year.
Take a second to picture 365 of anything: photos, email notifications, cups of coffee… it’s a lot.
While that may initially sound enticing, it leads to overwhelm for both you and your followers. And 365 seemingly random, non curated posts can portray a bland, cluttered, or soulless brand.
For example, imagine posting about the following topics, over the course of one week:
- National Pickle Day
- National Wear Flip Flops Day
- College Basketball Saturday
- Happy Eat Nachos Day, etc…
What does this say about you, your values, or your dentistry?
Don’t get me wrong, if you absolutely love pickles, flip flops, and are crazy about your college basketball team (you know who you are—the entire team wears their jerseys every Friday ;)) — these can all be winning topics for you. However, if in reality you love yoga, craft coffee, and want to be known for clear aligner therapy — pickles and flip flops aren’t going to do anything for you.
The magic of social media is that it allows you to share your brand, story, and passion. You can even have a little fun along the way, (We see those TikTok dance moves, lol…) while also allowing you to grow valuable trust and relationships.
Growing trust and relationships with patients only happens when you take time to think about how you want to be perceived. Your intention to be perceived in an authentic way will guide your post topics.
How do you want to be perceived?
You can only be strategic on social media if you consider what your goals are and plan ahead. If you want to be known for clear aligner therapy, you’ve got to be consistent about sharing content around that topic.
What do you want to be known for?
You can use your answers to these questions to help guide you in your content development. For example, if you’d like to be perceived for your love of fitness, friendliness, and community relationships – it would make sense to post about the following topics:
- An online yoga class you’ve recently tried (ties into your true love for yoga)
- A post about Random Acts of Kindness (ties into friendliness)
- A shout out for the local coffee shop (ties into your love for coffee and your community)
- All things clear aligner related (shows you enjoy helping patients with this and will help build your practice)
In this case, skip the post about how much saliva it takes to fill a swimming pool (yep, we’ve seen this post **yuck**).
You could also avoid the post that talks about children’s dental health month, unless you are looking to attract kids.
Once you are clear on how you want to be perceived and what dentistry you want to be known for, you can be more strategic about your content.
Can I get a heck yeah?
I hope this helps you see how a free calendar that gives you a post suggestion for every day of the year can be detrimental to your brand (not to mention a time suck). What you really need are curated content ideas that you can customize.
That is where we excel!
